An Audi RS4. I know they were sold in minuscule numbers, but I haven’t seen one since I think I was in high school. I worked at a country club and one of the residents of the neighborhood had one.

Just saw one at work. Dude stopped for me to cross the crosswalk, and drove down the road while I stared at the back and enjoyed the sound. One of the best sounding road legal Audi models.

I think the people in my neighbourhood with an orange one sold theirs for a blue V60 Polestar.

That’s weird. Where I work an Orange RS4 came in every Friday night. Then they came with a blue V60 polestar one night.

I’ve seen glimpses of them in traffic here and there. This one was at my work last year.

I know, there can’t be that many Orange RS4s, and Blue V60 Polestar’s in Ontario.

About 3 months ago, I met someone who owned two of them. Both clean low mileage examples. I think he traded them in for an X6M after.

I’ve seen two. The only RS cars I’ve ever seen in the wild.

I don’t know what you’d need 2 for, unless one was for the wife. Wait, it is an Audi, probably so he could drive one when the other one was in the shop.

My best friend owns a TTRS. I drove it once. Enough for me, I’d probably be in jail if I owned it. I wring the daylights out of my Abarth and I am barely over the speed limit. TTRS....let’s just say that I went over the speed limit.

I actually saw one at a Dodge dealer this June when I took my cousins scat pack charger in for warranty stuff. Salesman let me sit in it and check it out. It had 100k+ miles and they wanted like $29000 for it. I believe it was a 2004.

I work with a guy who has one. He also has an F150 and a motorcycle that both get used more othen, though I saw the Audi the other day. My guess: most of these were originally leased. So you saw them out there, because they were new and warrantied. Now they are on to 2nd owners who don’t want to deal with the maintenance associated with DD’ing them - like the timing chain guides - so they spend more time in the garage. Also, wasn’t there a convertible RS4? I haven’t seen one of those in ages. Probably super rare.

The San Francisco Bay Area seems to have about as many RS7s as A7s and S7s combined. Which is a lot!

The RS4 wasn’t affected by that, unlike contemporary S4s. Part of why they’re so sought after now.

That is a possibility, I still see a decent amount of E9X M3s and C63 AMGs and they were all about the same price point and also on their 2nd and 3rd owners.

RS4's do not share the timing chain/guide/tensioner problems of the S4's.
They have their own issues though. Specifically, a leaky DRC suspension and chronic, massive carbon buildup.

I had a manual B6 Avant for 8 years. and I test a drove a lot of Audis too. I loved the RS4, but it is an 8/10's car. Don’t drive it at 10/10's.

Well, I have a beater truck, so I no longer need practicality. There are a lot of cars on the list (including E90 M3, RS4, M2, M235i, etc)...but I have this itch to just go for gold and get a 997.

People do seem to love the 997s. Personally I’m a little biased toward the E90, but then I would be interested in owning a Porsche one day.

I did love the E90, and I’ll tell you it’s a close #2 because it’s beautiful, has amazing steering and a screaming V8, but the Porsche is my childhood dream car, and values on the 997 have pretty much bottomed out. I feel that between the 991.2 getting bloated, expensive and turbo’d, and the 718 going with a turbo four, the 997's are going to become popular again with the purists and prices will start to rise.

I could see that. Last Porsche with hydraulic power steering, will probably elevate values in a couple years. It’ll be interested to see what E90 values do, since it is the last NA M car, not that I plan on selling mine.

Interesting. I forgot that gen S4/RS4 were both V8's. I suspect them that maybe the reason we see so few is there just aren’t many. The RS4 really only had a year to shine over the M3 before the E90 came and matched it on power and undercut it in price.

There are very few RS4's, and less than a thousand cabriolet’s. RS4's were only sold here for a couple of model years.
B6/B7 S4's were V8's. The B7's engine had some slight revisions and the timing chain problems seemed to have been mitigated a bit, but it still happens. The RS4 actually has a very different engine...I believe only the block is shared.
The E90 M3 is no doubt a superior driver’s car to the RS4, but the RS4 still has allure, sounds better and is probably a better daily. Also AWD.

Considering the tepid receiption to F80 M3's, I’m sure E90 M3's will hold values. Though, they were built for a surprisingly long time.
I’d love to have one, but I aspire to import an RS2 in a couple of years.

They only made the E90 from 2008 to 2011, the E92 had a bit of a longer production. Only sold 5867 E90s here in the US and 9674 worldwide. The E9X platform had over 55k sales worldwide.
An RS2 would be a pretty fun car to have.

Yeah, I was including the E92/E93 in that. And they were available with manuals all the way to 2013 I believe.

You could get an E9X until 2013 with a manual, although the DCT was the more common transmission. Interestingly the manuals seem to hold their value better than the DCT cars.
